Compression of Acetylated Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL)

چکیده
Acetylation with acetic anhydride is well known to improve the dimensional stability and durability of wood. Veneer appealing for acetylation because its thin thickness, which supports a complete even impregnation difficult-to-treat wood species, such as beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). Unlike resin-based veneer impregnation, acetylated does not require any additional curing. As result, properties are already altered prior bonding. The compression thickness reduction in during manufacturing laminated lumber (LVL) utilizing 1, 3, 6 MPa at 150 °C 30 min investigated this study. results show that considerably less compressible than references. Moreover, density LVL low pressure (1 MPa) similar one references, though compressibility much lower. This due added acetyl groups after acetylation. most likely caused decrease moisture content (MC) accompanied mechanisms.

Studies on European beech (Fagus sylvatica L
Colour parameters of European beech were measured using CIELab system. 103 logs from 87 trees in 9 sites were cut into boards to study the variations of wood colour parameters. Both site and tree effect on colour were observed. Patterns of red heartwood occurrence were defined. When excepting red heartwood there was still a highly significant effect of site and tree; differences remained after ...
متن کاملMechanical Properties Analysis and Reliability Assessment of Laminated Veneer Lumber (lvl) Having Different Patterns of Assembly
Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) panels made from poplar (Populus ussuriensis Kom.) and birch (Betula platyphylla Suk.) veneers were tested for mechanical properties. The effects of the assembly pattern on the modulus of elasticity (MOE) and modulus of rupture (MOR) of the LVL with vertical load testing were investigated. Three analytical methods were used: composite material mechanics, computer s...
متن کاملPredicting red heartwood formation in beech trees (Fagus sylvatica L.)
Beech-forests (Fagus sylvatica L.) represent the natural vegetation cover for the majority of sites in Germany. Although coniferous forests actually dominate, beech is the most important among the deciduous tree-species in Germany, when considering the area and the economics. While the wood of the younger beech normally shows a whitish colour (white beech), the timber of older beech may form co...
متن کاملEffect of Boric Acid Treatment on Mechanical Properties of Laminated Beech Veneer Lumber
In spite of many alternative materials like iron, plastic, and concrete, which can be used instead of solid wood in different areas, wood remains superior as a natural engineering material. Due to depletion of forest resources, forest products industries are faced with a crisis in obtaining suitable raw materials in suffi cient amount. Therefore, layered composite materials like vertically and ...
متن کاملVariation in Ecophysiological Traits and Drought Tolerance of Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) Seedlings from Different Populations
Frequency and intensity of heat waves and drought events are expected to increase in Europe due to climate change. European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) is one of the most important native tree species in Europe. Beech populations originating throughout its native range were selected for common-garden experiments with the aim to determine whether there are functional variations in drought stress ...
